Hot Wheels: Custom Car Designer

Hot Wheels: Custom Car Designer

Mattel Interactive

Mattel Media's Hot Wheels Custom Car Designer CD-ROM puts you or your child behind the virtual wrench, spray brush and stamp pad, allowing you to customize the appearance of 20 different traditional Hot Wheels models (including the jeep, speedboat, blimp and a number of racers). But why stop at detailing your dream machine when you can also draft licenses and traffic tickets, label trophies and ribbons, and create flags and license plates? From the main access screen, you can visit the Print Shop to create a newsletter, greeting cards, business cards, letterhead, and postcards; the DMV to make licenses and license plates and issue tickets; Victory Lane for ribbons, trophies, banners, and flags; and the Customizing Garage where you customize your cars. The customization features include choosing the colors for your car from eight available, placing decals and adding different styles of tires, muffler pipes, spoilers, and weapons. Licenses, ribbons, and trophies can be personalized including imported photos for licenses. Also, traffic tickets can be created using traditional violations or personalized to include "special violations," such as "Dad didn't take me to the movies...$20 fine." Everything you create can be saved and printed. Hot Wheels Custom Car Designer CD-ROM sports a basic point-and-click interface and has no demanding PC requirements. Anyone familiar with MS Paint will be able to make use of the variety of creativity applications. Geared towards children, the product includes voice-recorded online help and links to the Hot Wheels Web site. No longer must you pine over your inability to tweak, tune or trick out your own car or truck; Hot Wheels Custom Car Designer CD-ROM puts all the tools at your disposal for making your souped-up fantasy car into a (virtual) reality.

Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots Arena

Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots Arena

Midway Studios Los Angeles, Mattel Interactive

In this one-on-one fighting game based on the famous plastic robot fighters, players not only get to pit various Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots up against one another, they also get to customize their bots' various parts to make them even more steel-twisting and destructive than before. Players initially have 12 different robots to choose from before they head off to the arena. With names such as Slamurai, Sir Haxalot, and General Warfare, it's easy to see that Mattel Interactive is going for a bit of a tongue-and-cheek feel. While the names aren't overly serious, the fighting is less comedic, with the robots throwing all of their various armaments at their opponents in order to assure destruction. These weapons are varied, from swords to bombs to Gatling guns. Each robot starts with a different set of weapons, and depending on the mode you're playing, their attacks can be altered and switched around.

Matchbox: Emergency Patrol

Matchbox: Emergency Patrol

Lucky Chicken Games, Mattel Interactive

Who do you call when there's an emergency in Matchbox County? The Matchbox Emergency Patrol, that's who! Play as a firefighter, police officer, or paramedic in this high-energy challenge based on real-life crises. Whichever hero you choose, you'll receive word of a situation over your radio, hop in your designated vehicle, and navigate your way to the scene of the potential disaster. Of course, there's really no way to know exactly what the scene is going to be when you arrive, so you'd better be on your toes. You might find a robbery in progress, but it might just be two people having an argument, so use your best judgment as to how to handle the situation. Modeled after the Matchbox Emergency Patrol series of die-cast toy vehicles, MATCHBOX EMERGENCY PATROL (the game) is an in-depth adventure revolving around crimes, accidents, and medical emergencies. There are nine different missions for each of the three emergency workers, making it a very diverse game.
