Elite Beat Agents

Elite Beat Agents

iNiS, Nintendo

The public knows of government agencies like the FBI and CIA, but little is known of this super-secret agency. Code-named "Elite Beat Agents", these men in black are heroes' heroes and the coolest group of guys this world has ever known. Of course, according to official records, they do not exist. Their leader, an ex-CIA agent named Commander Kahn, scans the world for cries of help. When he finds one, he dispatches the agents, who assist their targets by performing a song and dance. The hypnotic nature of their rocking revives the targets with "Groovy" energy that boosts their willpower and helps them overcome their obstacles. In each stage, the agents arrive in a special "Beat Transport" and must tap and trace patterns that appear on-screen to the beat of the music to save the day.

Presented in an overhead isometric perspective, a single player races a radio-controlled car around a series of tracks. The objective of each track is to qualify for the next race by placing in the top three racers. Players collect items to improve performance, and they must avoid a variety of hazards such as rain puddles and oil slicks. It is an example of a racing game which features vehicular combat, in which racers can use missiles and bombs to temporarily disable opposing vehicles. The game distanced itself from earlier racing titles by using an overhead, instead of a first-person, perspective. Reviews have cited it as inspiration for future games such as Super Off Road, Rock n' Roll Racing, and the Mario Kart series. It has appeared in many "top games of all time" lists and is regarded as one of the best titles in the NES library.

The Legend of Zelda: Navi Trackers

The Legend of Zelda: Navi Trackers

Nintendo

The Legend of Zelda: Navi Trackers was formerly planned as stand alone game, under the subtitle of Tetra's Trackers, but ended up being released as one of the game in the japanese version of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (Four Swords +). In this game, multiple players, using a combination of the television screen and Game Boy Advances, search for members of Tetra's pirate gang to gain stamps from them, as many as possible within a given time limit. All action takes place on the Game Boy Advance used by each player, with the television screen showing a basic map, and Tetra narrating the action. The game was first intended to be a remake of BS Marvelous: Time Athletic, but changing the franchise to Zelda. Assets based on BS Marvelous were found in the final game.

Takt of Magic

Taito, Nintendo

Takt of Magic is a Wii video game by Nintendo released in 2009 in Japan. The game has yet to be announced elsewhere in the world. The game is a spiritual successor to Lost Magic on the Nintendo DS, and has similar gameplay, though is not a sequel. In the game the player will use the Wii Remote to cast spells by drawing a certain pattern. In all there are over 100 spells that you can execute. As in most games of this type (such as Lost Magic and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings), you'll be given a map of the overworld before each battle so you can make a plan. Once you enter a battle, you'll be able to choose four characters to fight alongside your main character. The status of your partner is indicated by their icon's facial expression.
