Lose/Lose

Zach Gage

Lose/Lose is a shoot-'em-up and art video game developed by Zach Gage and released in 2009 for MacOS as part of his master's thesis show, "Data", at Parsons School of Design's MFA program. Styled after games like Galaga, the player controls a spaceship and can shoot at aliens in their path, each representing a random file on the player's computer. Destroying an alien causes the file to be deleted, potentially corrupting the player's operating system, while dying causes the game itself to be deleted. The aliens do not attack and only act as dangerous obstacles.

Halcyon

Zach Gage

Halcyon is named for the mythological bird of ancient Greece, said to charm the winds and seas into a calm during the Winter Solstice. Gameplay is one part spacial action puzzler and one part interactive stringed instrument combined in an experience designed specifically for the iPad. Colored currents travel inexorably toward each other. Strum the strings to match the currents, creating both phonic and visual harmony. Take on the role of the Halcyon, conducting nature, untangling currents, and bringing calm to the wind, sea, land, and stars.

Knotwords

Zach Gage, Jack Schlesinger

Knotwords is a minimal and elegant logic puzzle — with words. Arrange each section so every word across and down is valid. It may look difficult at first, but you'll be surprised at how quickly you pick it up! This is the kind of game I've been trying to design my whole career — I hope you like it
