Evolution: Eternal Dungeons

Evolution: Eternal Dungeons

Sting, SNK

Evolution: Eternal Dungeons is a conventional turn-based role-playing video game for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. It was released in Japan and the United Kingdom in 2000. Probably due to the large amount of text, separate cartridges were produced for the different regions it was released in, rather than allowing the player to choose the game language on the same cartridge. While the Japanese version is somewhat common, the English version is not. This game is essentially a port of its three dimensional counterpart for the Dreamcast. To accommodate downscaling for the Neo Geo handheld, the 3D graphics of the original were replaced with top-down two-dimensional maps and 2-D sprites. Both the Japanese and UK version of the game were released in hard plastic boxes rather than soft cardstock. The English translation has frequent grammar and spelling errors.

Evolution 2: Far Off Promise

Evolution 2: Far Off Promise

Sting, ESP, Ubi Soft Entertainment

Evolution 2: Far Off Promise is a role-playing video game for the Dreamcast console. It is a sequel to Evolution: The World of Sacred Device. It was developed by Sting and published by Ubisoft in North America. In Japan it was published by ESP (Entertainment Software Publishers). Evolution 2 Far Off Promise was also released for the European market in 2002 as one of the last European Dreamcast games. In the UK the game was exclusive to the video game chain Game. Like the first Evolution game, Evolution 2 is a dungeon crawler. Unlike the first, Evolution 2 has both random and predetermined dungeon maps. This game and Evolution: The World of the Sacred Device were remade into Evolution Worlds on the Nintendo GameCube.

Baroque

Baroque

Sting, Atlus, Rising Star Games

An updated remake of Baroque, a post-apocalyptic RPG game in which all hell has literally broke loose on earth. As the game starts, the world has been devastated by a heat wave and left nothing but demon infested ruins and a mysterious "Nerve Tower" which many claim that holds the answers to the apocalypse. You play as an amnesiac survivor who decides to enter the tower in search for clues to both your identity and the reasons behind the apocalypse. The game plays as an RPG dungeon-crawler, in which you control your character and attempt to clear each floor in the tower from monsters, earning experience and items and only occasionally journeying outside the tower to get weapons and equipment from a few NPCs. The PS2 remake adds additional floors, items and creatures and updates the whole game with a completely polygonal engine (the original used 2D sprites to depict characters and monsters). Furthermore, the point of view has been changed from first person to third person and the gameplay has been modified accordingly to make the game more of an action-RPG than the original.
